Gilles Deleuze (1925-1995) was a French philosopher whose work spans metaphysics, cinema, literature and politics. His concepts of difference, repetition, desire-production and control societies provide alternatives to dialectical and representational thinking.
Deleuze’s collaborations with Félix Guattari produced Anti-Oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus, foundational texts for understanding capitalism’s relationship to desire and schizophrenia. His “Postscript on the Societies of Control” identified the transition from disciplinary to control societies.
